Where can I collect oysters and mussels?

 

You will find most mussels, oysters and periwinkles on and between the stones in the tidal zone and in tidal pools on the small beaches tides along the dike

What is the best time to collect oysters and mussels?

 

You're only allowed to collect two hours before and two hours after low tide. At high tide the shellfish are under water and can no longer be found. An indication of the tide can be found via the tides tool on the home page. 

Where can I cut sea lavender and glasswort?

 

Cutting sea vegetables such as glasswort and sea lavender is prohibited in the Eastern Scheldt without a permit under the Nature Conservation Act. The permit issued each year by the province of Zeeland is valid for a certain part of one of the seven salt marshes where cutting may be carried out until 15 July. 

Can I catch crabs and lobsters and take them with me?

 

No shellfish such as crabs and lobsters may be caught or taken. Not even in small quantities.

There is no gate and no main entrance. There are no opening hours, you may always enter this national park and discover and explore the Eastern Scheldt.

When is the visitor's centre open?

 

In the Tophuis on the island of Neeltje Jans there is an unmanned information centre. It is open every day from 10.00 to 17.00 hrs. Public toilet at Proef Zeeland, Faelweg 1 in Vrouwenpolder (closed Sunday). 

Can you drive around the park?

 

You can ride your bike and drive your car alongside the park. On the landward side there is a whole network of roads with various places to stop and look around.

 Can I see the Easter Scheldt storm search barrier?

 

You can easily see the barrier from the side of the Tophuis. Parking at Dijkgraaf A. M. Gelukweg 1 Vrouwenpolder and walk around the Tophuis. You can only enter the barrier using the entrance ticket of Deltapark Neeltje Jans. 

Can I walk on the dried up silts?

 

The dried up silts are an indispensible roadside restaurant for many birds.

To give them enough time to eat, you're not allowed to get on almost any of the silts. 

Are dogs allowed in the park?

 

Whether or not dogs are allowed depends on where you want to go. Many areas inside the dikes are accessible with dogs on a leash; in some areas dogs can be let loose. The dried up silts are an indispensible roadside restaurant for many birds.

To give them enough time to enjoy it, we leave them alone and don't walk around in this area.
